Social Program

A social program has been specially designed for those taking part in the Congress and their guests, provided they are officially registered for the Congress.
It consists of social events which include the Official Opening Ceremony and the welcoming cocktail party, the Congress Gala evening and a guided tour of Paris as well as a supporting program which offers various excursions and evening outings.
The organizers will also offer the participants professional visits. Details of these visits will be given at a later date in the final program.

Social Events
 
OFFICIAL OPENING CEREMONY MONDAY 26 JUNE 2000 19.00/21.30

The Official Opening Ceremony will take place in the Great Amphitheatre of the University of the Sorbonne to
commemorate the 1st International Psychiatric Congress which was held in 1950 at the Sorbonne. The Official
Ceremony will be followed by a welcoming cocktail party in the Grand Salon and the Salle Péristyle of the Sorbonne, and will be an opportunity for participants to renew old friendships and meet new colleagues.
The Official Opening Ceremony and the welcoming cocktail party are open to all participants and accompanying persons. They are included in the registration fee for the congress. However, due to a limited number of seats, early booking is recommended. Please fill out the appropriate registration form. Applications to attend the Official
Opening Ceremony will be accepted with preference being given according to the date the registration forms are received.
An official invitation will be sent together with your final confirmation of registration for the congress.
 
CONGRESS GALA EVENING THURSDAY 29 JUNE 2000 19.00/23.30

The Congress Gala Evening will take place in the impressive Palais de l'Opéra Garnier, an architectural masterpiece, a high temple to lyrical and choreographic art, steeped in three centuries of music and dance. The red and gold theatre is enhanced by a ceiling painted by Marc Chagall and an immense crystal chandelier. The foyers are richly
decorated with mirrors, the lyre forming the main decorative motif recalling the theme of music.
The salons, the great staircase and library vie with each other in majesty and splendour.
You will be invited to a private performance of the Ballet «Giselle» given by the Troupe des Etoiles, Leading
Dancers and the Corps de Ballet. «Giselle» is a ballet in two acts of German origin, of French spirit and of Italian creation. "Giselle" became Russian when it was exported to St Petersburg. Paris rediscovered "Giselle" thanks to the Russian ballets in 1910.You will be offered an adaptation in keeping with this classical heritage. The ballet will be followed by a dinner in the splendid Salons of the Opéra Garnier and will be an opportunity to appreciate french gastronomy. The gala evening is open to all participants and their guests. However,due to a limited number of seats , registrations for the Gala Evening will be accepted with preference being given according to the date the registration forms are received.
An official invitation will be forwarded to you with your badge and the official congress documents.

GUIDED TOUR OF PARIS DAILY 09.00/12.00 or 14.00/17.00

This excursion, available from Monday 26 June to Friday 30 June 2000 will give you the opportunity to discover the main historic monuments of Paris. You will travel through centuries of history and drive up the memorable Champs Elysées to the "Arc de Triomphe" , look at the Tour Eiffel and visit Notre Dame Cathedral.
This tour is included in the registration fee for participants and accompanying persons (it is not included for
participants paying a reduced tariff) Please indicate in the registration form A, the tour code corresponding to the day and time of your choice and a 2nd option in case requested date is fully booked.
Vouchers will be collected from the Excursions Office at the Palais des Congrès.

Registration and confirmation

The optional excursions and evenings out offered below are described on pages 25 and 26.
These excursions have been arranged especially for this congress and include the services of professional guides and transportation by private coach. As the tours are special, early booking is recommended and places may not be available at the time of congress. Please indicate the tours of your choice on the registration form A to be accompanied by the correct full payment.
You will receive confirmation of your booking together with confirmation of your registration for the congress.
You will have to proceed as follows with the appropriate form A :

Payment and cancellation

Sightseeing tours and evenings have to be booked in advance by April 25, 2000 and must be paid at the time of registration. The excursion booking form must be returned to the Congress Office MTV BUREAU DU CONGRES together with the appropriate payment made by credit card or bank transfer (see method of payment in the congress registration)
Each tour requires a minimum number of participants. If the minimum is not reached, the tour in question will be cancelled and your money will be refunded in full.
In the event of cancellation by participant, no refund will be made.

ORSAY + LUNCH ON A BATEAU-MOUCHES OB
The Musée d'Orsay displays the largest collection of paintings, sculptures and objects d'art produced between 1848 and 1914, including works of the impressionists and post impressionists. This former railway station has become the temple of the impressionists. This visit will be followed by a lunch aboard the " Bateaux Mouches ", during which you will discover Paris monuments from the river Seine.

The château d'Auvers sur Oise offers a real multimedia experience following in the footsteps of the Impressionists. 16 programs recreate the Paris of the Belle Epoque as well as the natural milieu which inspired the painters.
