The organisers welcome proposals for papers or symposia on the theme of the conference. Relevant subject areas include: concepts of disorder; phenomenology, psychopathology and classification; ethics, human rights and mental health law; cultural diversity in the expression of mental disorder; psychoanalytic and cognitive behavioural paradigms; philosophy of mind, neuroscience and genetics; user empowerment; stigma and media coverage; social constructions of madness; history of ideas; institutional structures.

This International Conference in Philosophy and Psychiatry will be an opportunity to bring together the many national groups, academic associations and researches concerned with the epistemological foundation of clinical concepts and diagnostic categories and the ethical background of psychiatric practice at the light of the advances in psychopathological research and in the neuroscience. The Conference will also focus on the ways the changing of psychopathological concepts transform the social representations of madness, and on the ways the changes of contemporary society modify the phenotypes of psychiatric disorders. Special topics will be the impact of neuroscience on society and personal identity, the influence of media in post-.antipsychiatric practice, the integration of human rights in the foundation of psychiatry, and determinism in madness in the light of neuroscience and philosophical conceptions
